A petty or paring is a smaller all purpose utility knife which typically ranges from 80mm to 150mm. The petty is used for smaller tasks such as peeling, slicing smaller produce and sometimes even some filleting work. A very underestimated profile in the kitchen. A petty or paring knife can be a great addition to a bigger all-purpose knife such as a santoku of gyuto but can be good enough on its own for a wide variety of meals, especially for anyone who prefers smaller knives in general.
